The Super Rugby tournament is really starting to heat up, with teams piling up in their respective conferences, it is getting to the point where every game is a crucial one for the majority of the teams still in the running. One such game, perhaps the most crucial game in the round is the 1st game of Super Rugby round 12 between the Highlanders and Crusaders.
This is the Sport’s Freak Super Rugby Round 12 Superbru & Betting Preview
Highlanders VS Crusaders
The Crusaders are sitting on top of the New Zealand conference with 37 points, the Highlanders are in 2nd to LAST place but, only 5-points away from the Crusaders & can make a jump to the top of the New-Zealand conference should they manage to pick up a 5-point, bonus point win against the Crusaders, easier said than done though.
So what are the Highlanders chances of picking up a win against the Crusaders? Slim but not impossible. The Highlanders are starting to peak just at the right time and they are coming off a superb victory against the Chiefs. More good news for the Highlanders is a home game at Forsyth Barr Stadium where they have a very impressive record.
Even Though the Highlanders are staring to look like the real deal, there is something different about the Crusaders this year. They are starting to get that championship look about them again and in our, previous post on favourite teams to win Super Rugby 2016, we rooted for the Crusaders. This is Todd Blackadder’s final year and he will no doubt want to leave his legacy. Furthermore, the Crusaders has an excellent blend of youth and experience and their combinations are working well.
The Sport Freaks Recommended Pick
The Bookies have made the Crusaders, SLIGHT favourites, giving the Highlanders a 1-point start. With what we have seen thus far, combined with the knowledge of the bookies we will go with the Crusaders for a narrow win by 4-points.
Rebels VS Brumbies
The Rebels has been red hot at the start of the tournament, however ever since their impressive victory against the Brumbies, 5-weeks back they have started to slip. After the Waratahs game, the Rebels had a bye and then lost big against the Hurricanes, had a good win against a very weak Cheetahs team and then lost narrowly to the Blues last week.
Considering the above the Rebels, looked like they were going to be the surprise package of Super Rugby 2016 at the start of the tournament, however whenever the Rebels are confronted with some quality opposition it looks like they melt down. The question, though, can the Brumbies be considered as quality opposition?
The Brumbies, much like the Rebels, were red hot at the start of Super Rugby and were labelled early favourites. All is not well in the Brumbies camp and despite coming off a big victory against a poor Bulls team last week, when confronted with quality New Zealand opposition in their previous two games they lost and lost BIG against the Crusaders and Hurricanes respectively.
With that being said we still have faith in the Brumbies, and Stephen Larkham & Co hopefully identified and fixed their problems.
The Sport Freaks Recommended Pick
The Rebels, Brumbies game is getting played at AAMI park, the home of the Rebels where they are extremely competitive, and the Brumbies have proofed to be relatively poor.
With that being said the Brumbies have just too much firepower for the Rebels. These are two very similar sides in terms of playing style, however, the Brumbies man for man out gun the Rebels quite considerably.
Those who like to make a punt every now and then can grab the Brumbies at a generous @1.40, we reckon the Brumbies will emerge victorious with about 9-points.
